Comments: From Deborah Schroder
My dad, Nick Bongalis, was in VW-4 when I was child. I know that we were
stationed in Rosey Roads, NAS Jax, and Puerto Rico, but not sure of time frames. I would
love to here from anyone who remembers my dad. Thanks.

Comments: From John F. Windham
My father was in VW-4. He was Lt. Cmdr. Grover B Windham, Jr, the Plane
Commander of the plane which was lost during Hurricane Janet in 1955. I would like to hear
from anyone who may have known him. I was only 7 and thus my memories of him are hazy.
Thanks: John's E-mail Address jfw@beggslane,com
Comments: From David Gunckel, Jr.
My dad (Lcdr David Gunckel, Sr.) was a plane commander with VW-4 stationed at Roosevelt
Roads from 1960 to 1963. I have many memories of him and his crew taking off for the
Azores, Jacksonville, and other places tracking hurricanes. Although he is deceased, I and
my family would enjoy hearing from anyone who served with him...

Comments: From MoiraLynn Mefein (formerly
Marylin Tipton)
Hi, everyone -- I'm hoping to find photos from the 1957-61 era of VW-4 so my son can get
some more pix of his dad, Maurice Tipton. A little background -- Remember Hurricane Donna
during 1960? Well, I married into VW-4 just as Donna passed directly over Jax and all
leave and liberty were cancelled. Maurice (an AT-3 at the time) and I had been going
together for a couple of years. Howard Emery was scheduled to be our best man, but was on
the Sara out of Pensacola, and his leave was cancelled so she could ride out the storm at
sea. The base chaplain who married us over in Lake Shore was, as far as I know, the last
military person allowed to leave the base that day. He did manage to make it to the church
and get us married. Maurice and I parted years later, but stayed great friends, and both
had terrific memories of Jax, of both "The Long Emery" and "The Short
Emry", and many others of the squadron. Sadly, Maurice succumbed to massive cancer
related to some genetic problems at the age of only 39. I know, however, that VW-4 always
held a warm spot in his heart. If anyone out there has pix of Maurice they would be
willing to share, I'd be happy to pay for the cost of making prints for our son. Even
photo copies would be welcome. Thanks for all the happy memories, each time I visit the
page! MoiraLynn Mefein . E-mail is Marylin717@aol.com
